Morse code numbers are one of the most elegant pieces of design in the entire system. Each numeral is exactly five symbols long, and the pattern is perfectly symmetric around the number 5. Numbers 1 through 5 begin with 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 dots (followed by dashes to fill out five symbols); numbers 6 through 0 are the mirror image, beginning with 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 dashes (followed by dots).

This symmetry was no accident. By making every numeral exactly five symbols long, Morse and Vail ensured that numbers would never be confused with letters, which are at most four symbols. How to Practice Numbers
Numbers are easier to learn than letters because of their symmetric structure, but they are also easier to confuse at high speed. A single missed dot turns 1 (.----) into 5 (.....), and a single missed dash turns 0 (-----) into 6 (-....). Clean keying matters.

Maritime traffic exchanged latitudes and longitudes as strings of digits. Weather reports, still transmitted as Morse by some coastal stations, are almost entirely numerical.
The standard procedure words <AS> (wait), <BK> (break), and <AR> (end of message) are prosigns, two letters sent as one with no inter-letter gap. They are not numbers, but they are often mixed with numbers in real traffic. Learning to copy them alongside numerals is part of becoming a fluent Morse operator.
